Ever since SMEG’s 1950s appliances have been popping up in the trendiest magazines and styling, even the “uninitiated” feel the subtle need to hold something in their hands that has that oh-so-tight and alluring writing on it. By the way, don’t you know what SMEG stands for?

SMEG is the acronym for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, left unaltered as a reminder of the company’s early enameling and metalworking business.

The simplicity of this charming 1950s line, and its versatility, have made it increasingly present in the domestic landscape, so much so that it has come to represent Made in Italy even overseas.

The SMEG company was founded in Guastalla by Vittorio Bertazzoni back in 1948. Since its beginnings it has been a pioneer in the field of household appliances: one of the first gas cookers with automatic ignition, and the first 60-cm dishwasher with a capacity of 14 place settings, is from SMEG.

Next to the refrigerator, now a cult item, SMEG’s offerings are varied. They range from small appliances, design gems such as toasters, kettles, planetary mixers, and blenders, to minibars, and even dishwashers and washing machines.

In short, there is a wide range of choices to satisfy all the needs and tastes of the contemporary home. Whether you prefer modern, vintage or country style, SMEG is the right company to give that touch of personality that every space needs.
